An exhibition with Marion Taylor at the Penwith Gallery, St Ives, 28th May – 6th July 2016.
Kerry Harding and Marion Taylor have had a rapport and an understanding of each other’s work for a long time. In recent years, both have explored a journey that introduces figurative elements into their painting, while still very much retaining the abstract sensibility so important to the essence of their practice. A love of paint and its manipulation has always led the way. They agree that labels such as ‘more abstract’ or ‘more representative’ are irrelevant, and are happy to hover comfortably across the whole spectrum of art. Kerry’s work at the moment takes the local landscape as a starting point, whereas Marion’s inspiration has come more from her travels. As can be seen here, the act of making and the emphasis on process is the common factor that makes their work come together in a surprising and vibrant way.
